How Does myKryptofon Work?

myKryptofon works on a common set of principles and engineering designs which add a series of security measures protecting the user's privacy, communications, and files. At its core, myKryptofon is a VoIP softphone applicationA softphone is a software program for making audio calls over the Internet using a general purpose computer a smartphone or tablet, rather than using dedicated hardware. .

Each side of the communication (voice, chat or file transfer) must have myKryptofon application.  The result is a multi-factor, multi-method approach to communication security and privacy beyond industry standards.

What Makes myKryptofon Unique?

myKryptofon offers FIPS 140-2 Level 1 encryption and authentication:

myKryptofon add the following security methods and processes providing you with a differentiated communications solution:

  • myKryptofon is available on BlackBerry Boldsmartphones, Windows Mobile smartphones, and Windows Mobile. On BlackBerry smart phones, myKryptofon is deployed utilizing the BlackBerry cryptographic module for encryption with NIST FIPS 140-2 Level 1 certification.
  • myKryptofon delivers a rich set of authentication and encryption options, allowing each user or a team of users to dedicate encrpytion keys to a mission, project, person, day, etc., for secured voice, voice conferencing, chat, chat conferencing and file transfers.
  • myKryptofon obfuscates the encryption key from the communication streams. This negates any ability to attack the communication by searching for an AES seed.
  • myKryptofon encrypts the communication stream from the very first packet of voice, chat, or file transfer. It understands which key the person calling you is using, and decrypts the incoming communication with the correct key.
  • myKryptofon encryption keys can be modulated in the middle of an encrypted communication stream. Users simply change the key from the drop down menu on the main myKryptofon window, and a new encryption stream begins. The same applies to voice, voice conferencing, chat, and chat conferencing.
  • myKryptofon determine the status of the microphone.  If another program is using it, or another program is attempting to use it, the myKryptofon will turn off the microphone and speaker to ensure that no spywareSpyware is a type of malware that is installed on smart phones or computers collecting of audio or data without the users knowledge. or other program can access the myKryptofon audio.
  • myKryptofon validates license information each time it starts. If invalid, myKryptofon will not execute.
  • myKryptofon always checks for an updated version of the program each time it starts. If an update is available, it alerts the user to contact the BES administrator of the update (BES enterprise deployment) or it automatically updates itself and the login process restarts (individual purchase).
  • If a myKryptofon is lost or is stolen, I.D. Rank Security has the ability to disable it immediately upon request.
  • myKryptofon validates that the microphone is not in use by another program. If it is, myKryptofon will not continue to execute voice communications until the microphone is released by the previous program.
  • If myKryptofon detects that another program begins using the microphone, it ceases using the microphone for secured voice communications. Chat and file transfer may continue to function; however, the microphone will have to be released before myKryptofon can then again utilize it.
  • From one myKryptofon to another, the control and signaling information and communications are uniquely encrypted.
  • For myKryptofon, there is zero maintenance of encryption keys required by the user.  It is self managing.
  • For myKryptofon, each session utilized a single session encryption key.
  • myKryptofon obfuscates encrypted RTP content further by modifying the header in such a way that the packet is no longer understood to be a RTP packet, or even a UDP packet. Obfuscated packets allows for simple and cost effective use of open networks (e.g. the internet) for secured communications.

Based on information provided by the user, the following provisioning information is applied:

  • For enterprise implementations:
    • myKryptofon can be distributed from the enterprise customers BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES).  This provides, easy to install, manage, and push encrypted voice capability to any enterprise user, and secure deployment by BES Administrators complying with enterprise security policies.
    • myKryptofon can be distributed from the myKryptofon provisioning system by providing endpoint execution information in a spreadsheet for each device where myKryptofon is to be deployed.  Once uploaded, each endpoint user will receive instructions for installation in an email sent to the email system on each device..  Once complete, the address book is populated with every user provisioned in the order.
  • For individual purchases, the following applies:
    • The user installs from an email via a hyperlink download to the device where myKryptofon will execute. This hyperlink will only execute once.  The hyperlink will expired within 10 days.
    • The installation via the hyperlink will create a dedicated version of myKryptofon Solution which is specific to the hardware device selected and the operating system. myKryptofon cannot be successfully copied to another device.
